Great piece of literature describing what a piece of trash the stove was before they painted it yellow. So now I should buy it?

Well, you can always report the auction to eBay as a counterfeit, fake or replica item because the seller did not disclose it in the description. How can you "restore" a "fake"? |

One person has bid on it at $43 and has only 10 feedback. Hope he is a member of this Forum, reads this and has time to cancel his bid!

Sheesh. This guy is crankin' em out!
This is from his ad for the kerosene lantern he rescued from the Amish:
Quote: THIS IS FOR DISPLAY ONLY. Lantern should not be lit.
Methinks he was lit when he posted it. |

it's really unfortunate the bad publicity these "replicas" bring to real Gold Bonds. I have pretty much decided i don't want to collect any of the GB stuff now. I can afford it as i see them on ebay all the time but my money will go to something truly rare as i just don't see the GB stuff as being rare, not if everybody can just make a replica. Who knows maybe i'll change my mind someday and get a real one but just knowing what people are paying for fakes sickens me. Power to those of you who have the real thing and if you are one that buys the fakes... why? I'm very curious to know what the thought process is?

The kero one hurts my brain. Why would someone pay over $100 for a lantern that isn't rare, still produced, not correct, and you can't use?
Up for auction a BSY dust collector for the low price of $102. Yes please. |

Money motivates, and simple thinking (and simpleton speculation) buys them.
I was at an auction yesterday of generally higher priced stuff including some militaria. One item was a Nazi flagbearer banner. Not the kind of military stuff I want, but it was interesting to inspect.
It was in perfect condition with bold red, unstained white, and jet black colours, no tears, no missing frillwork, no staining--absolute museum quality. 5 hours later, a man and his wife bought it for $375. As I walked past, they were looking at the top part where the hanging rod would go through. To me, it looked like shiny red vinyl. In a couple of minutes, the guy walked up to the auctioneer's assistant and wanted his money back because it was a reproduction. The auction house said they never said it was authentic or a repro. We left cause voices were getting raised!
Who buys a mint condition Nazi banner at a little podunk country antique auction without taking a good hard look at it, and doing some homework? Probably the same people that buy stoves that never even existed. Some people are more gullible than we could ever imagine.
Mike.
